Break-the-fast Smoothie

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day because it breaks the overnight fasting period, replenishes your supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. When you skip breakfast (or eat one filled with complex carbs, dairy, sugar or processed foods in general) , it greatly affects your hormones. This hormonal change increases the cortisol level in your body, which causes you to feel stressed out. It also causes your insulin levels to rise and fall rapidly, which in turn leads to blood sugar problems and weight gain.

I love breaking my intermittent fast with this smoothie. Not only is it filling and delish, this smoothie also helps to wake up your liver, detoxifies heavy metals and provides your body with many essential nutrients, including:

Minerals; calcium, sodium, copper, magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium.

Fatty acids and vitamins including; vitamin A, K, C, E, D, and the B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12)

It also contains lots of fiber!

*basil also has antibacterial properties and contains DNA-protecting flavonoids!

Break the Fast Smoothie

You'll need:

  • Vitamix blender or similar

  • 1/2 C ice if desired

  • 2 C Organic Unsweetened Coconut Milk

  • 1 extra large handful of Organic Mixed Baby Greens

  • approx. 1 C Organic Baby Carrots

  • 1 Organic Avocado

  • 1-2 Organic Celery Sticks

  • 1-4 Organic Fresh Basil Leaves

  • 5g Glutamine Powder

  • 1 Tsp Organic Maca Root Powder

  • 1 Scoop (pharmaceutical grade) Protein Powder (I use this because the broken down aminos absorb & assimilate much easier in the body, pay full price or sign up with my holistic pharmacy for a nice discount)

Directions:

Blend low and slowly go up to high for a minute or until mostly smooth. This will make 2 servings, store refrigerated is saving some for later. I opt to drink all of this since I intermittent fast and do not eat normally until 11a-12p each day. Enjoy!
